Jack Byrne

1951 - 2008

Jack Byrne, the PC Member of the House of Assembly for Cape St. Francis District and Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, has passed away.

Premier Williams issued the following news release on June 5, 2008:

Province Mourns the Passing of Jack Byrne,
Member of the House of Assembly for
the district of Cape St. Francis

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today expressed the province’s deepest sympathy and sorrow in the passing of Jack Byrne, Progressive Conservative Member of the House of Assembly for the district of Cape St. Francis.

"Jack Byrne was one of the most well liked and highly respected MHAs on the floor of the House of Assembly; and is regarded as one of the true veterans of legislative service in Newfoundland and Labrador," said Premier Williams. "During debates in the House of Assembly, whether in opposition or government, Jack has always been one of the best. His convincing way with words and his dry wit were unsurpassed. Jack’s powerful ability to debate effectively was inspiring to watch. His contributions in his professional life were invaluable, as he worked to improve the lives of the people he served. Above all, he was a beloved family man whose proudest accomplishment was his wonderful family."

"He will always be remembered as one of the most outstanding MHAs to serve in this province. On behalf of the Provincial Government and the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, I want to extend our sincerest and heartfelt condolences to his wide circle of family and friends. In particular, to his devoted and loving wife, Bridget and son, Matthew. This is indeed a very sad day for our province as we mourn the loss of this extraordinary individual and friend."
