MHA Keith Hutchings pleased with Municipal Capital Works funding for Ferryland District

Keith Hutchings, MHA for the District of Ferryland, expressed his pleasure with the funds allocated under the 2008 Municipal Capital Works Program for projects in his district. In total, approximately $790,000 has been approved for infrastructure work in the area.

"I am very happy with the funds approved under this year's Municipal Capital Works Program for projects in my district," said Mr. Hutchings. "Investments in infrastructure are vital, particularly to rural communities, if we are to continue to work to improve services for our residents and to cultivate and sustain the Province's economy."

Projects approved for the District of Ferryland include the following:

• The Town of Bay Bulls will receive $500,000 for road upgrades;

• The Town of Petty Harbour/Maddox Cove will receive $225,000 for road upgrades and paving; and

• The Town of St. Shott's will receive $63,114 for improvements to the water supply system.

"The provincial government recognizes that communities require efficient infrastructure, and we have made significant improvements in this regard, "said Minister Denine. "We are committed to providing municipalities the capability to secure, develop and improve services from residents and I am pleased to approve $790,000 in Municipal Capital Works funding for important infrastructure projects in the Ferryland District."

"Government's increased capital budget clearly demonstrates its commitment to the rural communities of our province," said Mr. Hutchings. "No doubt, these projects will positively impact the respective towns, benefiting residents as well as those who travel through and visit the areas. I look forward to continuing to work with Minister Denine to address the needs of my district and to maintain and support the services for residents."
